St.
Thomas's Priory Golf Course is a comparatively young Golf Course when
compared to others within the region. Established in 1995 the course
is maturing well as it benefits from its historic past, where, as the
Deer Park of the Armitage Park Estate, nature was allowed to take its
course. Under the tenure of the Monks at Hawkesyard Hall and Priory
the lakes also flourished and when the course was designed these lakes
were used as the daunting tee shot for the 18th hole. A drive over three
lakes on the last hole could make or break any golfers card. The Armitage
Park Estate which has Hawkesyard Hall at its heart has had a variety
of uses throughout its history, a Gentlemans country retreat and hunting
lodge, the first conference centre in the U. K, a religeous retreat
and training centre for the Dominican Monks, and laterly a centre of
excellence for business and sports.
